Brewer Will Not Power On

Brewer power failure …

The advice from Keurig on this matter generally doesn’t work, which might be why you are at our site. What they recommend is the following (we haven’t come across one reader yet that this has worked for them):

  • The first thing to do is check to see if the brewer has the plug in the wall;
  • The other thing to watch out for is if you have it plugged into a GFI outlet (surge protector). If the brewer is plugged into a GFI then it may have tripped ; and
  • Of course the other obvious thing is to make sure is the on button has been pressed on the brewer.

And that is about where the Keurig advice stops. After this point, all they can offer is you get in touch with them. However, we have done more research into this problem as we had several emails from readers with just this issue. It seems that one of the most common causes of this problem is a power transformer failure. This failure, which can be sudden or intermittent, arises from a leaking solenoid. In most Keurig brewers, the transformer sits underneath a solenoid that, over time, can develop a leak. Of course, this is not good news for the transformer below, so the mixing of water and electrical current ends up with the evidential result of power unit failure.

If you think this might be the problem you are experiencing, the only solution is to replace the transformer – no easy job. However, if it is something you would like to have a go at fixing yourself, in particular, if you are now well outside the Keurig 1 year warranty, then check out our Repair Guides section that shows you have to repair a transformer unit. Also, check out our Keurig Replacement Parts page that lists transformers, the cost, and where you can buy them.

Keurig Customer Service

Unfortunately, if replacing the power transformer unit is not your thing, and it’s not for most people, then getting in touch with Keurig is really about the last option before you head out to buy a new machine. If you are still under warranty, then no worries, and you will have a new device from them in no time. However, if outside of warranty, the best they will typically offer is a discount on a new appliance.

    Thanks for the information. I’ve tried to contact Keurig directly, but I get re-directed to a just answer site that has so many restrictions that it might take a week to read. Can you share a phone number to Keurig?
