The company was founded in 1992 and is based in Reading, Massachusetts. It is a market leader in both the United States and Canada in the production and and distribution of single serve coffee pods and brewers. Although it has a growing share in the small to medium size business market, it is the home market where it has its true market power with an estimated 30 percent of a $40 billion per annum  domestic market.

Although its main focus is the US and Canadian markets, in particular with household retail, it is slowing moving into foreign markets; for example in the United Kingdom it has launched a small office placement service.
