Question:

I have had descale my Keurig at least five times in the last two weeks. I use purified water. I have also changed the filter. Sometimes I only get a half a cup of coffee. Sometimes it brews really slow also. What other issue could I have that is causing this message.I have also changed the filter. Sometimes I only get a half a cup of coffee. What other issue could I have that is causing this message to come up and could be causing the slow brewing and partial cup?

Response:

The problem with Jennifer’s Keurig brewer is not with limescale build-up (which is what the descale process is meant to overcome). The descale message in this case is being caused by another fault, which of is of no help in solving the problem.

Before we go on, we want to mention the issue with using vinegar in the descale process that Keurig recommends (and we have on our site). What we have switched to for our brewers at home is using a product by Bosch which we think is much kinder to the internal parts of these machines. Vinegar is a natural enemy of metal and seals (not the cute furry kind) in machines and we think this might be one of the issues that causes problems for so many Keurig owners. If you would like to try this product head across to our parts replacement page and its the first item listed.

The descale message in this case might well be solved by referring to our partial cup brewing guide. Solution one in that guide, referring to descaling, obviously won’t be of any help, but the other solutions might solve the problem Jennifer is having with the brewer.
