LCD Sporadic Operation

The 2.0 brewer all fixed and ready to brew

From:

Jim.

Question:

We purchased a Keurig 2.0 last Christmas and have enjoyed it very much. However, this past July, the LCD screen began to get fuzzy and unreadable then when white. We followed the instructions like changing outlets, etc. and it worked once again for a short time. Now it is white once again. Please assist us with this. Thanks.

Response:

Over the past few months we have had a number of emails from readers with problems on their new Keurig 2.0 brewers. Earlier this month we had a email from Elliott when his 2.0 wouldn’t display anything and back in July John wrote to us with a 2.0 screen that wouldn’t respond to touch.

The LCD or screen does appear to be the part that is causing the most problems for the 2.0 series of brewers; Jim is not alone in his frustration with these new coffee makers.

At least for the moment, people like Elliott, John and Jim can still access their Keurig one year warranties. As their machines are still within the 12 month cut-up, from time of purchase of receipt as a gift, Keurig will quite happily fully replace the brewer. They don’t worry about repairing them as just adds cost and complexity to their business – much easier to send out a new machine.

As an aside we aren’t so sure about the environmental impacts of this approach. We wonder how many of these broken machines sit around homes for a few years before being consigned to the garbage heap. Perhaps Keurig could take a somewhat more responsible approach for their machines, and to their customers, and offer a FREE return service to that the brewers can either be fixed (and perhaps open up a dealer second market) or properly recycled. But perhaps our friend in the video below would still collect them anyway.

For Jim we recommend he contacts Keurig’s customer service team and ask for a replacement unit. All they require is the brewer’s serial number (our short guide helps you with this) and your contact details so they can send out a new machine. If you had already registered the brewer on-line with them, they will have all of this already.

Keurig customer support can be contacted toll-free on: 1-800-361-5628 (for Canadian residents). For those in the USA their number is: 866‑901‑BREW (866‑901‑2739).
